    Hi everyone,
I’m a motion graphic artist and video editor. Looking to go freelance, learn C4D and want to get a home system set-up. I’m just curious to what people have.

    – my budget is $4000
    – I’m switching from Mac to PC, so a Windows system is what I’m looking for
    – a laptop set-up would be awesome, but I understand that might not be possible

Any advice or spec lists would be awesome. 🙂

Display card that’s supported by both.
I always assumed that a decent Maya box on the Windows side would handle After Effects but I’ve been proven wrong.
I def love using AE on the Mac more so than PC.
I have a few Mac Pro D700s with 64GB RAM running all AE/Resolve/FCPX/Premiere and an HP Z240 for Maya.
I tend to stick to Nvidia cards when it comes to polygon weights 🙂

I got mine recently from Puget systems—they really keep up with Adobe/Avid/Cinema 4d and know how to put together systems for those applications.

I didn’t get this exact one, but one very similar and it flies for rendering and 3D work.

Hey John, any arguments on CPU selection? I am looking to build a new rig too, and CPU is the most important factor to consider – wonder what weighted your decision !

    Thanks!

I went with the Intel Core i9 9900K 3.6GHz Eight Core 16MB 95W, because it’s has the fastest individual cores I could afford, rather than get a CPU with more cores. Added a GeForce RTX 2080i GPU and my machine flies for the work we do. Also run Avid on it too, handles most 4K fine.

I’m far from a computer guy though—I research what does AE, C4D and Avid need and just start allocating my resources from there.
