Best output format quality for 1920×1080 footage?

Hi!

I have searched this forum and been quite close to find the answer that I am looking for, but not enough.

I got problems with my output file after rendering. My footage is 1920×1080, 50fps and 24Mbps for my camera Panasonic hc x920. Recording format AVCHD. I also have recorded with 5.1ch surround.

Recently I got Movie Studio Platinum Suite 12 and have problems with the output file when I render as Sony AVC – AVCHD 1920×1080 50i, 5.1 surround. It takes much longer to render than other output options and when playing the created file, after some seconds the screen freeze but audio still going.
But I wonder, is it the best to render an AVCHD file to another AVCHD? I read your answer John Rofrano in another thread;

If you wan tto render a file to use in DVD Architect then use File | Render as…

Render the video as:

Save as type: Sony AVC
Template: Blu-ray 1920×1080-50i, 16 Mbps video stream

Then render the audio as:

Save as type: Dolby Digital AC-3 Pro
Template: Stereo DVD or 5.1 Surround (depending on your project)”

Is this better than render to ADCHD format? Maybe I want to burn a Bluray later but right now just want to create a movie on hard drive with the best quality I can get from my footage. Which render settings is the best?

It’s quite possible that the video is freezing (and audio keeps playing) because this rendered file’s quality is actually TOO HIGH for your current system to play it smoothly. If you want no video hangs, you’ll have to decrease the quality of the video.

If you’re looking for best video quality, you already have it with your current render output choice.

Hi Dave,

Ok so render an AVCHD footage to a new AVCHD is the best. Feels logical :).
I thought my PC was enough for these kind of programs but you say that it might actually be the system that is the problem. Ok thought it could take more time during the render process, but not that the file would be defect.

So ok, any tips which output file I would use instead of AVCHD? Something like the “second” best quality format :)?
