Best on-camera monitor for 5D Mk II?
I’m looking for a monitor to use with a 5D MkII. It’ll mostly be mounted on the hotshoe so it has to be reasonably small and light, probably 5″ or 6″. My budget is $500.
Two features I must have are focus peaking and DSLR scaling. SmallHD looks nice, but too expensive. Marshall looks good, but their ~$500 monitors don’t have DSLR Scaling – a 5″ monitor without DSLR scaling seems a little silly to me.
Does anyone have experience with Ikan monitors? They seem to offer more of the features I want for $500 or less. Not sure about their quality, however.

For the 5D, your budget is too low. The Small HD is excellent. JAG35 has a solution https://blog.jag35.com/new/products/jag35-monitor/
But the JAG does not offer professional options, peaking….etc. If you ever attend a professional trade-show all the major monitor players have their gear on display to review and play with.
Simple Rule of thumb for gear. “Trust No One” (lol)

Thanks for the suggestions. Has anyone used Ikan monitors before? I like their feature sets and prices.

The Ikan guys were great at NAB. I was able to play with all their monitors and get a sense of what worked… You really need to get in a store and check these out and compare!

FWIW, I went with the SmallHD AC7. I thought it might be too large and heavy to mount directly on the 5D MkII but it isn’t. It’s a very light monitor.
For $600 I got all the features I want: DSLR scaling, focus assist, and it uses the same batteries as the Canon 5D (with required a $60 add-on bracket). I also got the SmallHD Hot Shoe Ball Mount.
