I’m about to buy a Quad Mac to edit two features that will be shot on an F900, Varicam, and possibly an HVX200. If money were not an object, what would the ideal monitor setup be? I have a 2405FPW already. Should I get another, or should I get a 30″ Cinema Display as my primary and use the Dell as the secondary (even though they don’t match)? Is there a such thing as too much real estate? Also, if I want to have the ability to do some color correction, are there any recommendations for a third monitor? How effective are the Dell’s via component for this? I’m not going to spend a ton of money on this because we’ll do a proper online, but it would be nice to have some meaningful ability to monitor output. Lastly, as an aside, wait for the 7800GT or 6600 okay for NLE? Thanks for the help.

I have two Dell 2405 monitors, and love them. I am also editing DVCPRO HD. You can use the monitors for the additional real estate, or using Digital Cinema Desktop you can use one as a production monitor….this via the DVI connection. You can even use this setup for preliminary color correction, as I recently found out (www.lfhd.net). But for FINAL color correction and prepping for broadcast delivery, best to have a professional HD monitor. Do the preliminary CC with the Dell, then do the final touches with the HD monitor and external waveform/vectorscopes (ecinemasystems has a good one, Sony has a $45,000 CRT, but there are lower end HD monitors, like the PVM-14L5).

The Dell monitors beat the Apple monitors soundly, btw…wwwlbarefeats.com/lcd.
