  • Best mic for interviews on noisy streets

I’m going to be recording some outdoor interviews on the street this week and wondered what mic would be best to do it with? It’ll likely with a lot of background noise from other people and traffic. Here are a few mics I have to choose from…

    Rode NTG-3 Shotgun Microphone
Audio-Technica AT4053a Hypercardioid Studio Condenser Microphone
    Shure SM58 Cardioid Microphone

    Any other recommended mics?

Hello Adam and welcome to the Cow Audio Forum.

The EV RE50 is the industry standard. It’s a handheld omni that you see on the street. Because the mic has to be almost at the mouth, this omni works very well.

Thanks! I assume this mic won’t pick up handling noise?

“Thanks! I assume this mic won’t pick up handling noise?”

Only if you don’t hold it firmly.

    What Eric said.

Repeating….this is the accepted standard for handheld use. If you have too much handling noise, you’re doing something wrong.
