March 19, 2006 at 6:01 pmJust for the record, AVI is a file format, but not a movie format. An AVI file can contain movies in a large variety of formats, from DV (as in camcorder) to MPEG-4.
The best source video for editing is typically the type of video with the lowest compression and the least change since it was originally shot. That would typically be DV-AVI as captured from your camcorder. Other AVIs are pretty bad sources, such as DivX AVIs downloaded from the net or converted using a DVD backup tool.

March 19, 2006 at 6:43 pmYou can import the DVD files directly via Files>Import>DVD Camcorder Disc.
Keep in mind that if you are making a new DVD, Vegas will recompress the video again with significan quality loss.

March 19, 2006 at 7:14 pmI appreciate the DVD files have already been compressed and will be again by the time I’ve finished with them….this is what I’m trying to minimise…as the footage is worth it and this is news!. My options in Vegas 6 are…file>import>media…AAF or Broadcast Wave. I dont seem to have the DVD Camcorder Disc option.
