  • Best iMac setup (SSD + HDD) for After Effects CS6

Posted by Tom Power on October 22, 2014 at 4:17 pm

I have an iMac with a 512GB SSD and also an external LaCie 3TB Thunderbolt 2 HDD.

I will mostly be using it for After Effects and I was wondering what the best setup would be to take advantage of the speed of the SSD.

Would leaving the application on the SSD and moving the rest of the files to the HDD be sufficient?

Any other helpful tips would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

The most important thing for After Effects is that the disk cache be on the fastest disk/bus that you have.

If I’ve got the Fusion Drive which automatically allocates some storage on the SSD for the most frequently used documents, is there any way I can make sure that the disk cache is always on the SSD part?
