    Hi everyone,

first of all, I’m kinda new here so I hope I’m posting this in the right forum.

Second, I’m a 20 year old college student with a passion for editing. I make videos with a lot of effects so rendering is quite heavy. ATM I’m editing on a macbook pro with the specifics:

    – OS X 10.9.5
    – graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 320M 256 MB
    – storage: 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3
    – processor: 2,66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

And as the external harddrive (required for FCP) I use a ‘Lacie Little Disk Hi-speed USB 2.0’.

I really wish to upgrade my setup, but have little money to do so (max $500).
For better rendering performance, should I buy a better computer of external harddrive and what would you guys recommend?

    Cheers,

    Ivar

I think you’ll do better to keep saving your money and investing in a new laptop. Do you have Thunderbolt on that system? If not, then there’s no external acceleration available.
