Best Format to Render HDV Footage

A producer of a children’s TV shown saw a short video clip I have had on YouTube for the last three years or so, and has asked for my permission (which I have given) to use it. The producer wants me to send a file with the clip in its highest/best format.

The clip was taken in HVD format on Mini DV tape. I have captured it in Vegas 10.0, but would like to know what the best rendering format/settings would be for this purpose. Should I just render it using the MainConcept HDV 1080-60i setting?

I should mention that the footage was shot using a Sony HDR-HC1:

Yes, that is the same format that your camera shoots so it would be a good format to send in.

John,

I am a beginner with the latest Sony Vegas Platinum movie studio and i am about to create a movie with HD video and high res photos. Should the movie be set at a certain size if i plan to burn on DVD to be played on large flat screen HDTV’s

Hi Ric,

You should really start a new thread so that more people see it and offer advice. Your best option is to edit in HD even though you are delivering in SD DVD. This way if you decide next year to buy a Blu-ray burner and want to go back and create an HD version you can. Your edit session will also run smoother if you match you project properties to your HD footage properties.

I plan to burn onto blue ray but in case i have to burn to DVD is there a size i would have to maintain to fit the TV screen or will vegas know automatically

When you render for DVD, just select the DVD Architect Widescreen template and your video will be formatted for widescreen DVD playback just like HD widescreen (only smaller).

In fact, since you are using Movie Studio, just press the Make Movie button and follow the prompts and Vegas will do the right thing.
