An editor is sending me a video to colour grade, he wants to send me the separate tracks (a way around the complex transitions he’s included) to reassemble in FCP, then to Color for grading. He says he can’t export to QT, or even Unc avi, without his computer crashing.

No mov…no avi…What is left? He was going to send me m2t’s, but I don’t want to lose quality transcoding them to something I can edit in FCP.

What would be the best option left?

Rafael is right, but you also might kick him to fix his system.
    (that would be my option)

Tell him to get a better system so you don’t have to work extra hard to fix his problems. To go into Color you need quicktime files and they have to be matched quicktime files. So if he exports a still image sequence, you are then going to have to re-render all of that into quicktime files, prep the timeline and send to Color.

Or make sure whatever price you quoted him is now at least double with the possibility of going triple.

What I figured (and feared). My motto throughout this project: “Never again.”

Thanks for the reply, guys. I appreciate the advice. Especially the suggestion to kick him!
