  • Best File Format / Template for Widescreen footage

    Hi everyone

I know this may sound like a fairly basic question and i have tried to search for the answer but no luck so far.

Ok, so using Sony Vegas Pro 9, I want to render the final video so that it fills the whole screen of a widesreen tv. I don’t want to have to burn it to DVD either. I want to be able to plug a usb device into the tv instead and view it that way. I’m currently using the DVD PAL template but it leaves black bars either side of the screen.

The original footage is widescreen and shot on a panasonic sd700 camcorder. When I connect that to the tv directly, the footage fills the whole screen up.

What template / file format should I be rendering to?

    Thanks
    Josh

That’s because DVD PAL is 4:3. Try using DVD Architect PAL Widescreen video stream and press the Custom button, and go to the Audio tab and include the audio. This will only be an SD file however. If you shot in HD and are using a USB stick then I would render using Sony AVC and the Internet 1920×1080-25p template. This will give you an MP4 AVC/H.264 file to play back on your HD TV.
