Best de-flicker solutions in vanilla AE?
so first off I need to clarify I’m not talking about time-lapse flicker, y’know that global exposure level shifty shifty that so easily occurs with timelapse raw images. no, I’m talking the super annoying rolling bands flicker that comes with so many indoor flourescent lights.
I know there are plugins, and some of them are very good for only $100-200 but I’ve seen so many videos peddling the same “no plugins fix” that always relies on duplicating the layer, shifting by 1 frame, and dropping opacity or changing blending mode (to create a kind of luma delay that most of the time hides the flicker). I am aware of situations where this will suffice, but let’s say you’ve got REALLY STRONG flicker, like you might as well have shot this thing in a basement club on a psytrance night. Let’s say there’s also lots of movement, and the shifty by a frame method will give REALLY obvious motion artefacts.
Does anyone have any tried and tested tips that could resolve this? Ideally without resorting to paid plugins as this is a one-off job and, and from everything else I’ve ever worked I can only hope a one-off shot…
