Best Compression for Presentation
My organization is preparing a presentation of about a dozen films.
5 of which are in High Definition, the rest are in standard definition.We are going to compress all the quicktime files (in Apple’s Compressor) to MPEG-2 to be put on a dvd that will then be upscaled in a blu-ray player.
Most of the projects are about 5 min. in length.
The HD projects are about 10-12 min. in length.What are the best compression settings for this? Best bitrate etc?

Start with compressors 60 or 90 minute preset and tweak it from there.
From here, it’s impossible for me to give you any more detailed advice without seeing a sample of the footage you are dealing with.
Downscale either the HD projects in either FCP or compressor depending on what you are more comfortable with but search this and other forums for tips.

Thanks for the tip, that was the plan anyway.
For the HD stuff we’ll probably up the max bit rate just a little. -
Actually you should be using a lower bitrate for the HD material and higher for the SD if you want everything to look similar.

Wow, why not encode for BluRay and upconvert the SD material? Seems a shame to take HD, downconvert to MPEG2 and then re-upconvert to HD.
Shame.
Get Toast 9 and bring all of your movies there and burn a Blu Ray disc onto standard DVD-R media. Buy a $299 Blu Ray player and show it via HDMI off that player. I guarantee everyone will be impressed, and you will have used a $199 program and a 25¢ disc to pull it off.
Works for us.
