We’re looking into replacing some old Sony Trinitron NTSC preview monitors that are used within our edit suites.

(Not looking for a computer display, and not a consumer-level TV.)

We need to display broadcast-quality, color-correct output in NTSC SD and HD, as we are producing both SD and HD television commercials.

The current edit suite desktops (Macs) are connected to Sony HDV DVCAM Digital HD Videocassette Recorder, Model HVR-M15U, which output via SVideo to a Sony PVM-14L1 monitor.

Here’s an example of a monitor that’s well within the budget:

Sony LMD-2110W 21.5″ Professional LCD Monitor
    Product Highlights
    1920 x 1080
    170°/160° Viewing Angles
    NTSC/PAL
    10-bit Signal Processing
    109% Peak White
    ChromaTRU Color Matching
Color Temperature & Gamma Mode Settings
    Composite, Y/C, RGB, Component, HDMI
    SD-SDI Support via Optional Adapter

    B&H sells this model:

    Any good???

    1. What monitors are being used in the TV station / cable provider where you work?

    2. What can we expect to pay for a decent monitor that can display broadcast quality output?

    Opinions and suggestions appreciated!!
