[Michael Gissing] “However, my experience so far is that uncontrolled device is the way editors have so far dealt with this type of capture and of course I get to find out about it months later doing the online. “

That would suck. Big time. Using AJA VTR Exchange (a Free app from AJA) you can capture time code with an uncontrolled device.

If you are actually planning on doing your offline with HD then DVCPROHD is a pretty safe option.

    Hello,

    Thanks all for your answers.
I heard from CallDigit that Final Cut Pro has a limitation and can just handle one 10-bit uncompressed 1080i stream.
I never heard about that limitation.
    Someone has more information?

    Regards,
    Martial

In my experience this is true. I’ve had a 500MB/s Raid going and could only do one stream of uncompressed HD. In theory I should be able to do 2, perhaps three. But I too heard that the limitation of 10-bit UC was 1 stream…with FCP.

That’s why it’s best to capture at ProResHQ. Like I said before, editing 10bit Uncompressed 1080i HD in FCP can be trying. You will need to render everything as you go.

You could always capture 10bit UC and transcode your captures for editing, then re-link back to the Uncompressed for a final online.
