Ordered a new Sony VX2100 (will be here tomorrow) and was curious as to what tapes you would recommend. Are the Sony Premium tapes OK or should one use the Excellence tapes instead? With this kind of investment I would rather use the best tape for the camera. I know that the Excellence tapes cost about twice as much as the Premium tapes, but I have 4 new Premium tapes…don’t know if I should use them or get the Excellence tapes instead.
    Thanks for your opinions.

The general recommendation would be that it really doesn’t matter which one of those you pick – just pick ONE and stick with it.

I use the Panasonic Master series and that is all that goes in my cameras.

Inuse the Panasonic MQ and PQ series only. Have had no problems and Panasonic gives you an extra 3 minutes (ie; 63 and 83) per tape.

Like was said above. Stay with the same brand.

The only difference from the Sony Premium and the Sony Excellence tapes are the profit made by Sony and the tape reseller.

I have used over three-hundred tapes in the past four years, and I buy the cheapest Sony tapes that I can find. I buy them 25 at a time and never paid more than $3 each for them.
