Batch Exporting 24fps ProRes
Hi,
I’m currently working on a documentary which was shot in both 24 fps and 23.98 (all the media was shot on the same camera, they just switched from 23.98 to 24 mid-shoot). The current media is 2048×1152 and Cineform codec, and I need to transcode all the media to 1280×720 ProRes 422 (LT), and preserve all original frame rates.
We’ll need to generate EDL from the ProRes, so it’s important that it retain Source TC and Reel info. So I’ve found that FCP’s batch export keeps this info. In the Batch Export settings, I’m using “Quicktime Movie” as the format and “Apple ProRes 422 (LT) 1280×720 24p 48 kHz” as the Setting.
The problem is that my 24 fps media all gets exported as 23.98. How can I batch export 24 fps media to ProRes 422 (LT) so that it retains Source TC and Reel, and also the original 24 fps frame rate?

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately we need to leave everything in original frame rates and edit that way, as we are finishing in 3D, and the facility handling the finishing has requested that we maintain original frame rates (it’s a pretty messy situation as you can probably imagine, considering they switched frame rate mid-shoot while filming 3D).
So I’m able to transcode the 23.98 footage without problem, it stays 23.98. But unfortunately I can’t find a way to transcode the 24 fps footage so that it stays 24 fps and also retains Reel and Source TC. Any ideas?

I’ve stumbled onto the same problem.
I have a partial workaround:
To export 24 fps media to ProRes, such that it retains 24fps frame rate,
– batch export
– Format: Quicktime (custom)
– Options:
– Settings
– choose your codec,
– set frame rate = custom,
– type in 24 fps.This works, but the media source timecode and reel are not retained.
Does anyone have a workaround that sets the correct 24fps frame rate, and retains source tc and reel ?

i suspect the problem is that the default setting uses a frame rate of 23.98.
you have to create your own custom sequence preset se to true 24fps,
and use that for your batch exportnick
