Batch export issues
Hi all,
I’m running FCP 5.1.2 with XSAN 1.3 on OSX 10.4.7.
I’ve got a collection of nearly 200 very short sequences which we’re going to run through an encoder to FLV for incorporation into game elements. So I’m trying to batch-export them to photo-jpeg MOVs, then pull those through the encoder.
Odd thing is, FCP worked fine up to the 16th. Then locked up completely. 17, 18 et al. render and playback fine, doesn’t seem to be any issue with the media or anything. I’ve tried our other Macs, tried leaving it to run overnight, no joy. Manual export is not really an option because of the number of them.
Upgrading isn’t really an option at present, because we’ve got a cluster of G5’s on the XSAN which all need to be compatible with each other. An upgrade of everything is scheduled, but only once the current projects are delivered…
Any help would be appreciated!

Have you tried keeping the exports the same as the sequence settings? Why do you want to convert to photo-jpeg?

think that that worked before. However, I’m using Photo-jpeg because it actually looks better than the DV that the sequences are.
The FLV compression we have to use is pretty harsh, and we had the previous lot (exported as DV) effectively sent back.
I’ve found that exporting as Apple DV tends to increase the black level of the footage, and we also have to manually set the ‘high quality’ flag on the files in QT pro – not much fun for 100+.
I’ve just about got it going, doing them 7 at a time, which is better than one at a time! Think it just crashed again though >:-[

you probably don’t need this, now, but there is a small app that will batch modify your QT files to high qual.

I had this problem on the one occation I had to do a ton of clips at once with Batch Export. I just made several batches, with 25 Sequence each, and it worked fine. Instead of one Batch, I made three, and they went with no problems.

Now that’s probably the most useful utility apart from a Mac software-based bread slicer, or maybe FCPRescue… 🙂
