I have a project at offline RT that I am taking to uncompressed 10 bit…..

It is a compilation episode – part of a TV series where all the other eps have already been onlined. This episode is made up of chunks of the other shows – which have been assembled from the offline sequences – and in general are now being redigitized from scratch in the episode sequence timeline.

I followed the same procedure for this episode as I did with the others:

    1. Take the offline sequence and make clips independent.

    2. Open media manager and create offline at 10 bit, deleteing unused media from duplicated items and using 15 frame handles.

    3. Open the online project and digitize from the online sequence.

    DUPLICATED ITEM FILENAME
When I do this I get this message: “Another item in the current batch has been found to use the specified filename. Enter a differn filename and click Continue or chose one of the options listed below (skip, overwrite, abort)

For the other projects in the series this would come up for a couple of clips, and we would simple give the filename a new name and continue. The problem is, for this episode almost every single clip needs to be renamed. And – every time you close the batch capture and start again, you need to rename them all, all over again. In other words – impossible from a practical point of view.

I have tried selecting all the clips in the timeline, right clicking and making them independent. This works ONCE – solves the problem…..but once I stop the batch capture and start again I can’t make them independent again – the option is greyed out. If I right click the sequence in the browser and make clips independent, it doesn’t solve the problem.

It is impossible to uprezz this sequence unless someone can explain how to fix this problem…..

We need to get AVIDs I think…..

Try creating a new project, save it, then drag the sequence you wish to conform into the new project (this copies it). Close the original project. Now try to batch digitize.
This should break the link to the original clips (any sequence copied from another project allegedly automatically has its clips become orphans (independent).

    Hope this works for you.

This has solved the problem for me in the past. In AVID you use decompose. IN FCP you make a new project. It actually works quite nicely this way because you end up with a project per episode and it keep s the project sizes smaller, easier to open, track and archive.
