Bare Minimum Requirements for editing HD?
I’m about to upgrade to HD and I’m going to get a Canon 7D. I’d like to know some system specs on what the minimum requirements are to edit without any problems. I don’t have much of a budget beyond about $1000.00 towards a new PC and software. Can I upgrade my current PC? The camera is stretching my budget as it is.
Windows XP, AMD Athlon 64X2 Dual 5400+ (2)320 Gig HDD 7,200RPM
2 Gigs of RAM. Nvidia G-Force 8600 GT, 400W power supplySoftware: Adobe Premiere Pro 2.0 I know would have to upgraded to CS5. What would have to be upgraded from there?

For video from a DSLR your system requirements are higher as the video is highly compressed, if you want to stay with AMD I would look a the six core processor with a minimum of 8gigs or ram and a recommended video card. -
CS5 needs 64 Bit OS. Save your existing computer for Email and Websurfing.
I’d like to suggest you do NOT attempt the “Bare Minimum” requirements for editing HD….
If you are going to purchase a new system in order to do HD editing:
Especially if you ever plan on burning BluRay’s……
Set aside more for Processors, Ram, and Raid, than the “Bare Minumum” suggests.More Power equates to Shorter Render and Transcode times….
