so like, I have babied this program to get discs to play on all players and just when I thought I had the perfect settings, I have one disc that keeps pausing then skipping at the same point on the DVD in certain players (not all).
anyone with good luck making DVDs from AvidDVDit, post up your settings, please. I am down to middle settings at 6000kbs in attempt to make this thing play. I have changed out the source video over and over. Cant fiure this one out.

Use CBR at a low datarate for PC use, but go up to 7000 (CBR!!!!) for normal DVD players.
Only use VBR (with 7000 as a MAX) if you must. But then you have a very long show….For short shows, why even bother? Why would you want to save data? Give it the max on all shots!Combine that with AC3 @ 192 (assuming you do stereo)
Get QUALITY discs, eithere Tayo Yuden (love the watershielded) or Ritek. Nothing else.

Burn at 4X max.
Get a decent encoder. The basic Cinemacraft is very good for the money, and accepts Avid’s native color.
(if you input 601, set it to 0-255, don’t ask…)If that’s too expensive, get TMPGenc.
If all fails, give the client another player.
If you have money, go to a plant and have 100% compatibility.
Burned discs are a recepy for trouble, although i have not sees one of mine (seriously) fail in a long time, and i have had an output of about 3000 discs every year.Bouke

I’ve found burning my discs low and slow works everytime. I’m working at 2X.
I use Ritek exclusively.
The only time a disc doesn’t work is when a customer tries playing it in a CD drive on their computer.

man, I’m missin somthin.
So like, I can take one of my skippin’ master DVD and put it in a diskmaker duplicator, copy it’s 1s and 0s to other discs then play those copies fine… no skip even where the skip is on the master.
That points to player but of course I am trying these discs on multiple players.

That sort of makes sense. The DVD duplicator is more likely to detect and correct errors it discovers in the master before it burns to the duplicates.
A player has to do this in realtime. Some players are good, some cheap and chearful some will just skip while the better quality ones will try and interpolate across the error.
I remember the early days of CD and DVD players (Philips). Both had ‘error’ LEDs on the front panel which lit each time a data error occurred on the media being played. This functionality was carried forward to most DVD/CD decoder chips but demand from the Movie and Record companys ensured that manufacturers remove the visual indication – I guess so they can get away with poorer/cheaper quality media and boost their profits. Not being synical of course!
I always burn at 2x and have yet to have a DVD fail to playback smoothly.

Seems like it’s time for a firmware update on your burner, or just replace it…
