  • Balance of quality and filesize for output with alpha channel

We are routinely outputting graphic elements with alpha channel for use in promos and spots. Obviously we all have some limits as to available codecs that support alpha.

We are currently using Quicktime output with a PNG codec to manage filesize. Even then, 10 seconds is about 515Mb.

There may not be a better option, but I wanted to put the question out there to see if we have missed some options, or need to perhaps add a codec or two on our machines.

What gives you the best balance of filesize with alpha channel support?

    System:
    Dell Precision T7600 (x2)
    Win 7 64-bit
    32GB RAM
Adobe CC 2014 (as of 7/2015)
    256GB SSD system drive
4 internal media drives RAID 5
Typically cutting short form from HD MP4 and P2 MXF.
