Baking Twist deformation in C4d for export to Maya.
Posted by Sam Stanton on July 13, 2010 at 3:18 pmI’m needing to bake a twist deformation in order to export via
fbx 2010 to maya. I’m using the twist deformer in c4d. Is this possible?

July 13, 2010 at 5:50 pmI should clarify…I’m animating the twist deformation, so i’ll need to export the object twisting to maya.

In that case you’ll have to bake the animation. You can do that with a point cache tag:
* add character tags>point cache tag;
* click the store state button;
* check the enable and use deformer boxes;
* click the calculate button;
* uncheck the use deformer box;
* in the timeline, run Functions>Bake Object, making sure to check the PLA box.
That will bake the deformer animation to point-level animation. Now, I think from that point you may need a plugin to export the PLA animation. I think there are MDD reader/writer plugins available but I haven’t used them.

July 1, 2011 at 8:02 amHi guys,
I’m trying to do the same thing but all the functions under the point cache tag aren’t active so the “store current state” button isn’t doing anything. I’ve got a run down of what i’m trying to do below but what would cause this tag to not work?
Maybe my animation setup is different? I have a null as the parent to control a group of individually animated objects. I am using bend. bulge and twist deformers on top of the objects contained under the main group so that I can control all the deformations and the individual objects at once.
I’m really new to c4d and 3D in general – yewwwww – 3 days in – so talking to people who know what they are doing would be awesome and any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanks guys
