  • Bad Firewire port – need cheap camera with RCA inputs

My firewire port on my Sony PD-150 has gone out, and Premiere Pro 2.0 has a rare compatibility issue with the Panasonic DVX100, it seems. I’ve never really liked using my cameras as my playback decks, anyway, so I want to get a cheap camera just for capture and playback. I’d also like one with RCA inputs, as my work often entails re-editing from DVDs and I need to be able to pass-thru directly through a camera. Any suggestions?

How about a Canopus ADVC box. That’s under $200.00.

My thought exactly, though you still might want a cheap DV camera for direct FW transfer…I’m not sure how plentiful they are at the bottom end with analog inputs.

Price in The Netherland EUR 470,-

    Good luck

Is that the same as the ZR700 in the states? It seems to be, as best I can tell. Excellent suggestion. Thanks!

I hadn’t thought about that – that’s a very good option. Though I kind of like the idea of having a little camera instead of my $3600 camera. That way if I need to strap it to a helmet or wrap it in plastic for a rafting trip, I’m not risking as much. Realistically, though, after years of doing this, I haven’t had many opportunities for shots like that. But maybe I’d seek more out, too. 🙂 Next thing you know, I’ll be strapping cameras to my toy remote controlled helicopter. Thanks for the suggestion!
