Bad Ext. monitor caused canvas to show green glitches
When upgrading to FCP 4.5, all the stills and most filters when viewed in canvas glitched out into a weird green color.
We discovered that the second monitor, a environvison 19″, was somehow causeing feedback (?) and screwing up the canvas display, even if the canvas was showing on the other monitor.
We replaced the bad monitor and everything is fine.

I edited my subject line to more accurately describe your situation.
An “External” video monitor could not affect the Canvas display as it comes after an outside conversion process.
I was puzzled until I read your post.
