I’m working with some footage that was recorded with the levels too low down. I’ve turned up the volume but I now get an awfull background hiss.

What is the best way to remove this background noise ?

    Cheers,

    Steven.

Adobe Audition. You sample the noise and it deletes it from the entire file.

Adobe Audition is the ideal tool. However, if your background audio only consists of hiss, check out the DeHummer effect.

Thanks guys, I’ve just downloaded the trial version of Adobe Audition, it’s tricky to use. I can select the audio for the video and the effect but I can’t see the video at the same time, nor can I add volume, unless I turn up the levels, which I guess is ok.

    Cheers,

    Steven.

    Anarav,

I can’t find de hummer, only de noiser, which does help, but between the lines of dialogue you get this kind of wind going through a tunnel sound effect that comes and goes.

What version of Premiere Pro are you using? Please see this link:

You can also get rid of most of the mic hiss by applying the treble effect. Its simple quick and not too noticable if its basic audio underneath like talking. The de-hummer removes most camera hum but the Bass effect will remove quite a bit as well.
