    Hi,

I am currently working on series of videos about butterflies and moths and for the title text, I would like to have the text look like it has butterfly scales, so I have an image I have imported I want to use as the text background instead of the text color, but I am not sure how to do this.

Anyone know how I can do this?

[David McCormick] “I would like to have the text look like it has butterfly scales, so I have an image I have imported I want to use as the text background instead of the text color, but I am not sure how to do this.”

Make sure that the text color is White. Then:

    1. Place the text on a separate track (because you will be compositing this track and the composite mode will affect everything on the track)
    2. Place the background on a separate the track below the text
    3. Set the composite mode of the text track to Multiply (Mask). The text face should now be the background
    4. Set the child composite mode of the background track to Make Compositing Child.

The tracks below these two tracks should now be visible with the background as the text face.

    Hi Brand and John,

Thanks for the information. It worked great for what I wanted. Thanks for the video link Brad, helped with compsiting and sources as I knew it was something to do with that I had to change when I was doing this but wasn’t sure what.
