To capture HDCam SR 4:4:4 in the Avid under the RGB 709 project setting, we are only given a choice of 1:1 resulting in overrun errors.

Short of doing an external conversion to 4:2:2 (the SR deck does not have a format converter), is there anyway to get Avid to capture this material compressed (thereby creating an “off line” we can later “up-res” when ready to output?

I’d like to get it to DNXHD 115 ideally.

Just want to know before I pull the trigger on an external converter to get 4:4:4 material into Avid for editing.

    Thanks,
    Richard

There is no internal converter to do that while capturing a live signal, the 422 signal is expected at the source in order to capture in a compressed DNxHD format. So you will need to do that outside the Media Composer.

yup… uncompressed and a very fast raid would be the only option…

maybe this coming NAB will introduce the much anticipated (at least for me) DNX-RGB or 444 or whatever Avid wants to call it.

you could see how well your drives respond to prores 4×4 files via AMA then capture to a final cut system
