HELP! I’m not an editor or terribly computer savvy. I’m a producer/director and here’s my pickle:

All media of DV feature (about 160 gb – raw footage, music, titles, assemblies) was created on avid Xpress pro 4.5 and is stored on a drive that is formatted for PC–I want to do another cut on a Mac with DVXpress 3.5 but can’t access the data on the hard drive with the Mac. I’m told that I can transfer all the data to another drive temporarily, re-format the original drive for both PC and Mac, transfer the media back and then the Mac will be able to read it and DVXpress 3.5 for Mac will be able to import everything that was originally created by Xpress Pro 4.5 on a PC. Does anybody have any experience with this? Can a drive be formatted for both PC and Mac?

Thank you, thank you, thank you for your attention and expertise!

    Hi,

You’ll want to format the drive in FAT32. The Mac will read that. Most of what you’ve done “should” be OK when you open up in the Mac, but anything that utilizes a Xpress Pro feature might be a problem. If it won’t kill you, bringing in cuts only sequences would be a good gamble.
