    Hi There,
We are running an Avid Unity Lanshare EX version 3.4.1 and have two fibre channel Avid Adrenalines working great. I want to install the ethernet clients on two new computers which have Avid Xpress Pro w/Mojo but I’m not sure the best way to do so. We have no budget for Avid’s tech support and our Avid Assurance has run out. Any suggestions or links that might help us? We are Windows XP-based here.
    Thanks,
    Jessica

    From memory

    1. Install the Unity Ethernet client form the Unity CD to each XPro system.
    2. Make sure your Widows computer name is the same as your eventual Unity identity for each system [easier management] and make sure you configure Windows networking properly.
    3. I prefer to use fixed IP.
    4. Create your Unity identities [and any workspaces needed]
    5. Connect the cables.
    6. Log on.
    7. In XPro -> Settings -> PortServer -> Make sure it says ‘Autoconnect’

Check the Unity CD. It has instructions for it.

BTW – this assumes you have licenses for more users.

Yup–we have licenses for more clients (5 I think); long story short, when we got the Lanshare, we had 3 old systems that basically didn’t meet the specs for Avid to say the ethernet client software would even work on them so they said we were on our own, and well, surprise, they didn’t work at all (couldn’t see or access the Lanshare partitions). So finally we were able to upgrade our systems to be up to Avid standards, installed our Xpress Pros with Mojos on them, but our tech support has run out so if I want to get them working for our other editors I have to do it myself. I’m an editor, not an IT/networking type, so this is all a bit daunting to me.

I think our original CD has an older version of the software but when Avid came out to install the Lanshare they downloaded upgrades and burned them to a CDR for us. So would I have to install the original software first from the CD and then the downloaded upgrade? I’m sorry if that’s a dumb question.
    Thanks for your advice!

I would uninstall the client software first and then install the latest version.

If you have assurance, the updated software is on Avid’s site.
