I am thinking on buying one or two Avid tutorials to learn more on using Avid Xpress.

There are several I have been considering, one of them recommended by Creative Cow (*):

    1) (*) Inside Avid Xpress Pro, by Steve Bayes. Book + 1 DVD. Price: $99

    2) Edit Like a Pro with Avid Xpress Pro, by Andy Jenkins. 2 DVD. Price $147

    3) Avid Editing, by Sam Kauffmann. Book. Price: $49.95

    4) The Avid Handbook, by Steve Bayes. Book. Price: $39.95

Has anyone read or tried any of above, or is willing to recommend some other?

I have the “Avid XPress Pro Visual QuickPro book” (ISBN: 0321145976) which is priceless, when you want to look up how to do something. It’s not really designed to be a ‘sit down and learn Avid’ book in my opinion. Avid’s own “Editing with Avid Xpress Pro” (ISBN: 0321199693) is good, but seems outdated and some of the material doesn’t match up with the latest versions of XPress Pro, so some readers may find themselves lost in some of the exercises.

The best source of training I have found so far, though, comes from the 3 DVD set directly from Avid. These cover Editing, Effects and Color Correction, and do a pretty thorough job. They are geared towards the beginner, or someone coming from another NLE, so if you are an Avid Power User, look elsewhere.

As well as Avid’s own introductory videos at https://www.avid.com/community/ (look under tutorials and videos).

I haven’t read/watched any of those that you listed, so I cannot comment on them…
