I had to make some changes to my system because I was unable to get a clean digital output. There were digital artifacts on the output that looked like blocks (backward E’s) flashing across the screen and the playback was stuttering. Playing back the cut was fine this was only visible on the digital cut. I tried a mixdown and then consolidated the edit. I suspected that maybe there was a problem with my drive and was advised by Maxtor to get the material over to a new drive. (they told me a 3 year old external drive was too old and was probably failing) I resorted to adding an internal drive on a mobile rack (hoping for better luck with a western digital this time) and then found that I had to install a windows service pack to have the computer see the drive. Now Avid is not recognizing my deck. I tried changing the deck setting to “Generic” in Avid and tried different settings on the deck but I don’t know what else to do? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks In Advance

Check the service pack requirement for the version of the Avid software you are using. I’ll bet the service pack overwrote the OHCI drivers. I’ve never had this problem but plenty of people I know have told me that this will happen when updating to a non-spec’d service pack.

I believe you either have to uninstall the newer service pack (not sure if you can) or you may have to re-install windows with the proper one (not 100% sure on this). Before you do anything, maybe check the Avid forums on their website for more info.
