  • Avid not capturing when I have already opened a sequence–on a Mac G4 laptop

I recently upgraded to Tiger and am running Avid 4.81. I have had many problems and frequently solved them. I do all the normal maintenence things like remove MCState, etc. If I create a new project with nothing that have been put in the timeline, then I can capture with no problem. The moment I put something in the timeline, I get the message Fatal__Error, msg.AvDisposeHandleMac: Not Mac2WinSafe.
First I sent Quicktime to the Trash and then downloaded it again. Then I was able to work for a few minutes. This was posted on the Avid Forum.
When it started again, I reformated my 17″ Avid G4 laptop (2 mb of Ram) with Tiger and re-installed Avid 4.81. As long as I turn on Avid with nothing in the composer window (cleared the monitor of timeline), then it works. I just keep capturing all my footage before I open a timeline for editing. Now if I clear the monitor (composer window) and sign off Avid… then do maintenece on my hard drive (Lacie) by removing the 2 files your suppose to remove, and by removing MCState, then I can turn Avid back on and capture.

Something is wrong… I’ve tried everything.

IN OTHER WORDS, I have to turn clear the monitor window and then exit Avid. I then do the maintenence steps (MCstate, the 2 files (.pri, and ?) and then turn Avid back on. It will still have the clear monitor and I can capture. If I put something in the monitor window or even play back something I’ve captured, then I have problems and have to go thru this sequence again by clearing the monitor and then exiting Avid.
