[George Seven] “ow can I import avid mxf files to final cut 7? “

    With third party software.

If you want only what is used in the sequence, and the sequence itself, you use automaticduck.com.

If you want only the media, then calibratedsoftware.com or mxf4mac.com/mxf-import. These allow you to work with the footage natively.

No, they aren’t free. And no, there are no free options.

There are free tools to do so.
If you have an avid (or a free 30 day trial), you could export to QT.
That will give you timecode, but no reelname.
If reelname is important, you can add it using QTchange.
(either set it yourself per reel, or export an ALE and have it done in one batch)

There is a video tutorial as well.
