November 4, 2011 at 12:07 am[Chris Conlee] “Not to mention that the video was shy on the details I wanted and wasn’t particularly persuasive from a marketing standpoint. Oh well. Still looking forward to giving MC6 a run.”
I thought it was pretty shy on details and on just about everything I was expecting. It was very short and mostly focused on that poor hostess, who was given nothing to read but badly written hyperbole. I’m just thankful she didn’t use the word “agile” even once, or I might have barfed up my breakfast, if you know what I’m referring to. But, I too am looking forward to giving MC^ a run for it’s money, since I’m 99% certain it’s my next NLE.

November 4, 2011 at 12:19 am[Steve Connor] “[Chris Harlan] “I’m looking forward to the 3D stuff. I just turned down a gig because I don’t feel comfortable in that space. Now, I can play.”
I’ve edited a few 3D shows in FCP7 with the Dashwood plugin, which is also available for FCPX now. If the footage is well shot and the stereographer has done his job, then post in 3D is not particularly difficult.
It’s when it’s badly shot that the fun begins.
“Ironically, I was hoping FCS4 was going to bring 3D. I’ve looked at the Dashwood plugin in depth and it seemed cool. I could just never really justify it because 99% of my work is TV, and we just ain’t there yet (and, I have my doubts we will ever be.) But now, I’ll be able to play, which sounds great.

November 4, 2011 at 12:26 amThe tele-prompting made everyone seem pretty stiff, that’s for sure.
The other thing that stood out was how many digs they got in at Apple. “New look, same feel” “Better, without forcing you to re-learn everything” etc, etc. Really emphasized listening to their customers. Clearly, FCPX has been a huge gift for this company.

They were clearly just dying to get a chance to say those words on camera. And you’re right about the “gift,” and at a time when it seems Avid needs all the gifts Apple can spare. Unfortunately, I suspect Apple is going to be gifting to them the professional space in perpetuity.

Avid folks said SL should work, but testing was done with Lion so that is the “certified” OS.

November 4, 2011 at 10:05 amThanks!
Basically we could have 1 media composer + Da Vinci Lite as our “offline / edit” suite an a Symphony + Da Vinci as our “online suite” I guess. Seems the premium cost for Symphony might not be worth it for us though. We’ll see.

November 4, 2011 at 11:46 am[David Roth Weiss] “The implication of the Avid webinar this morning seemed to implicate that all or the common AJA, BM, and Matrox I/O device were now fair game.”
If they would support the ioHD that would help me to go for AVID instead of PP.
The ioHD was a bit of a scam, you never got HD monitoring out of FCP.

I can’t see any reason why it wouldn’t be supported. They announced MC6 would have both ProRes encoding and decoding. So, that’s a pretty good sign.
