The ioHD outputs through a firewire interface, doesn’t it? Media Composer 6 doesn’t support their own firewire hardware (Mojo and Adrenaline), so I think it’s PCIe or nothing. It would be great if I was wrong, but I’m pretty sure it won’t work because it’s firewire.

November 4, 2011 at 3:39 pm[Erik Lindahl] “Basically we could have 1 media composer + Da Vinci Lite as our “offline / edit” suite an a Symphony + Da Vinci as our “online suite” I guess. Seems the premium cost for Symphony might not be worth it for us though. We’ll see.”
not exactly… 🙂
MC6 + a decent I/O card, good drives, a scope and a calibrated monitor (if you know what you’re doing) is enough for a large bulk of your online work too. MC color tools are good. you can add magic bullet and resolve lite and you cover even more work.
for higher end finishing, just get resolve (6 times cheaper than Symphony and far superior for color work)
in any case… its hard for me to think of a specific reason why you would need Symphony for your workflow
my 2 cents..

Yes it does… It connects to the computer via FW800.

Well, that’s not very encouraging… I take back what I said before.
Rafa, looks like you’re SOL. Sorry!!!

I’ve edited a few 3D shows in FCP7 with the Dashwood plugin, which is also available for FCPX now. If the footage is well shot and the stereographer has done his job, then post in 3D is not particularly difficult.
“i second that… Dashwood tools make post in 3D exceptionally smooth if footage was properly shot.
i hope MC6 tools will be as cool and fun to work with
does Dashwood offers an Avid plugin? would be nice if they do…

Better to know the bad new from the beginning, don’t you think so?
Is a pity. Is a nice device.

Absolutely!
[Rafael Amador] “Is a pity. Is a nice device.”
It fulfilled a need that nothing else could at the time, albeit for a very brief period of time.
If I were you Rafa, I’d sell it ASAP and use the proceeds to buy a Matrox device, such as the new MXO2 LE with T-bolt. That way you’ll be covered in just about every way possible.

November 4, 2011 at 4:47 pmNo, I have a hard time seeing why we’d go with Symphony at all. Are the other “online-type-tools” better? Motion tracking? Effects?
Normally I go FCP > COLOR > AE > FCP or FCP > COLOR > FCP if not FX-shot are in the mix currently. I’m about to evaluate Resolve Lite but I think we’d go with the big brother as soon as we upgrade to the correct hardware (wrong GPU, video card and somewhat slow machine at the moment).

If I would stay in any civilized area of the world I would try to sell it 🙂
I thought that AJA stopped selling the ioHD some time ago, but to my surprise no.
I bought it because at the time was the only solution for pro monitoring on a MBP.
For me is time to wait, see, and don’t spend a dollar till things settle down.
“Volatility” is the word: FCP, Mac Pros, Greece, the Eurozone..God!!
(need to switch of for a while 🙂

David,
I’m not so sure about that. I attempted a 30 day trial on PPro and it was pretty flaky with my MXO2 LE – from the Matrox forums here that seems to be a common experience; my feeling is “wait and see” with both Matrox and Adobe, hopefully they can develop more convincing stability.
I’m interested to hear more about using it with Avid too.
It’s pretty good with my FCP7 set-up though I find the audio scrub response is a bit laggy. There were problems with Matrox drivers / FCP for a long time though they seem to be ironed out.
Franz.

“I actually heard that the latest drivers appear to have solved many of the earlier issues people were encountering with PPro and MXO2, but I haven’t tried that combo myself.
However, I may check it out over the weekend if it keeps raining here. If I get a chance to do it I’ll report back here with my results.
And yes, the audio problems with MXO2 (I have an LE) have been a bit of a bear. Even those new drivers I posted about on the Matrox forum still appear to be imperfect, though they are an improvement over the previous drivers.
