Avid Media Composer 5 issue with format
I just got Media composer 5 and am switching to that from FCP.
While initially setting up for a test project I while trying to set up format I am only seeing 4 choices in the format drop down menu ( 30i NTSC,720p/29.97, 1080p/29.97, and 1080i59/94
and Raster Dimension is greyed out as well as Color Spacer instead of the many that The Steve Holyhead tutorial shows. WTH?
Very frustrating.
I cannot proceed without understanding what is happening. Anyone have any ideas??

You have already created a “project” at this point and your frame rate is locked. This is one of the differences between the way Avid and FCP approach projects. This occurred when you got the “select project” window during the startup process. If you select “New project” you will get a dialog with all the frame rate options.
Avid makes you choose a frame rate before you create a project. Once that is done, you only have the options available in that frame rate in your format tab. You should create the project based on what your delivery frame rate is going to be. For example, if you are going to deliver a 23.98 master, then create a 23.98 project.
You can open bins with other frame rate material in them, and even cut them in the timeline in your project. But you can only capture and output at the frame rate of the project.
