Avid Media Composer 4.0 & Snow Leopard
Posted by Michael Derario on October 18, 2009 at 9:55 pmHas anyone had any issues with Media Composer 4.0 and Snow Leopard? Just wondering because I have been thinking about upgrading to Snow Leopard and upgrading my Avid Media Composer 3.0 to 4.0 and wanted to see if there have been any compatibility issues.
Thanks,

October 19, 2009 at 2:47 amI have upgraded to snow leopard and I am experiencing 2 issues and not sure if it is related to upgrade.
I can not digitize hdv minidv tape into system. After naming the tape I get an error saying:exception: a non-drop tape was inserted. A drop frame tape was expected. Then exception: ADVAUDIODEV: DV device missed starting timecode
Then I name tape again and get: Exception video signal present but not capturedI can not open handbrake even after downloading 64 bit encoding version
Any Ideas

October 19, 2009 at 10:25 pmAvid is VERY picky about OS and QT versions. Never update beyond their system requirements.
Snow Leopard is not supported by Avid Media Composer…

October 20, 2009 at 12:49 pmThank you.. If I just reinstall leopard will that wipe out everything on my drive? If so will going back to time machine to 2 weeks ago when I installed snow leopard a good way to go knowing I will lose two weeks of work?

ONly if you choose the ERASE AND INSTALL option. And that is what you need to do. You can’t just install on top of what you have. You need to backup all your files, reinstall the OS, then update, then reinstall all your apps. DO NOT MIGRATE APPS…at least not the PRO ones.

Your work is contained in the project file. Just save the project file and you are still good. No work lost.

November 22, 2009 at 3:14 am4.0 is not compatible with Snow Leopard. I had to go back to Leopard when I installed 4.0. Bummer. As for failing to mitigate license, just call them. They’ll take care of you.

April 28, 2010 at 8:09 amI’m buying a mac off a friend and he’s asked if I want Leopard or Snow Leopard. Could someone please confirm whether or not I can use Avid on Snow Leopard or whether I should stick with Leopard?

April 28, 2010 at 1:52 pmUpgrade the Avid to 4.02. Snow Leopard works fine! Any questions, ask me. I’m using a Mac Pro w/ both Avid and Final Cut.
