    hi there folks

we’re going to do a project that’s going to start on a FCP 6.0 system with media originating from P2 HD cards, and then we’re going to eventually export the project from the FCP using Automatic Duck and take it (and the media) over to an Avid Media Composer 2.5.2 Adrenaline with DNxcel to ‘online’ it.

Yes it sounds like a bad idea to us, but we don’t make the decisions.

    Our concerns are thus:

    1) Does the MC Adrenaline DNxcel work with P2? (at version 2.5.2)

    2) The P2 Stuff is being shot HD, but the final product is meant to be SD, does the Avid have any capability for down converting the project to SD?

    3) Has anyone else out there ever tried to relink P2 media in a comparable Avid system before?

we see many potential pitfalls here, so any and all advice is welcomed

    thanks

Surely this is one for the decision maker to sort out! Seriously though why not do a short test sequence and present it to your online operator so that you can get things sorted out cheaply.

    Hmmm,

The import P2 option came with MC 2.7.

Avid has a pretty good downconvert in the video output and is something we use often.

Why are you online-ing the project in Avid. Might as well just stay in FCP, it has great P2 functionality at the moment. Whilst color correcting in Avid is probably easier, is it worth the transfer effort and costs??

I’m guessing money is the reasoning behind FCP.

Don’t know the size of the project, but maybe getting P2 transfered to tape?? If it was on tape then you could just Digitize SD and wouldn’t get charged at an HD rate.

However, we’ve never run this workflow either, so i’d also love to hear any success stories. My guess is export EDL from FCP then import P2 into Avid based on that EDl, but that’s a complete guess.

    Cheers
