Avid MC 8.5.4 keeps stopping by itself, and lowering volume by itself…
I am using Avid MC8.5.4 on an iMac 3.5 GHZ Intel Core i7, with 16 G RAM, running OSX 10.9.5
Media is on an external 7200 rpm USB 3 G Tech drive. Footage has been imported as DNxHD 115 MXF.
I am using a normal Apple keyboard and the Apple battery-powered magic mouse.
While playing normal 1080p clips in a simple timeline (1 layer video, 3 tracks audio), Avid will be normal for long periods, and then suddenly stop itself several times in a row… it will stop, i will hit the spacebar again, it will play for just a few seconds or less, then stop again, i will hit the spacebar again, and repeat this pattern about 5 times. Then back to normal.
Also, it will occasionally lower the volume of the machine output down to zero by itself… i will then mouse the volume back up again in the Mac menu bar, then it will be normal for a while, then do it again. This pattern does not repeat as often.
Also, it crashes about 5 or 6 times a day, sometimes seemingly in clusters.
Could this be a corrupt user profile? If I want to make a new user profile, how do I preserve my keyboard shortcuts? I hope they are not corrupt, i do not want to rebuild those!
any insight is greatly appreciated,

I might try a wired keyboard and mouse first.
