Trying to make the transition from xpro to FCP and having difficulty with some things with the interface. I’m trying to do a circular PnP over a background. Found the scaling in the viewer but for the life of me I can’t see anyway (yet) on how to modify it. I’m trying to do a “Happy Days” record spin open for this college fundraiser promo. It’s crunch time and any help would be appreciated.

Go to Amazon.com and loop up FCP for AVID Editors. It’s a great book for any Avid Editors making the switch to FCP.

Place the video you want to overlay in a video track above the background video. Now simply scale it down by either grabbing the corners (in Image & Wireframe Mode) or double click the video to be scaled down into the Viewer and adjust with the Scale numbers.

Thanks Walter. I’ll be sure to get hold of it. The only thing saving me so far is intuition and working on media 100 back in the day. I figured out the scaling part but making it circular is a mystery.

Effects>Video Filters>Matte>Mask Shape set to oval and tweak to taste.
