Avid DnxHD45 translates to the old off line ratios
Hello,
We are in the process of delivering an export of a show and the network has requested that this cut be delivered no less then 5:1 ratio. We are editing the show in DnxHD 45 at 29.97 fps.
Does someone know what the ratio that compares to DnxHD 45? I know that before the Dnx codecs came out, this was how you would compare your offline media 15:1 or 10:1 ect.
I just need to make sure that editing with DnxHD 45 is greater then 5:1.

DNxHD 46 is an offline resolution codec. It’s the 1080 30fps one…where DNx36 is the 1080 24fps one.
YOu’ll want at least DNxHD 145 (if 29.97) or DNxHD 115 (if 23.98)

Using DNxHD 36 as a comparison to uncompressed HD (1:1), it is roughly a 22:1 compression. 36, 40, and 45 are all in the same compression family and only differ based on frames per second. 36 is for 23.976/24 fps.

175/175x is ~4.5:1 compression compared to uncompressed 1:1.
So if for mastering, and they require no more than a 5:1 compression, then DNxHD 175/x is the way to go as Shane mentioned. 45 is used for offline proxy editing where storage is a priority.
