  • Avid DNxHD codec configuration window won’t allow Alpha selection

    Hi,

As Avid editors, I am guessing you appreciate the speed with which Avid DNxHD encoded quicktimes import over image sequences or other non-Avid encoded containers.

As a Mograph/Animator, I can’t export a DNxHD Quicktime with an alpha channel because the Avid codec does open a full configuration window and the alpha radio buttons don’t function. see: https://community.avid.com/forums/t/72403.aspx?PageIndex=1

This occur when using using applications like AfterFX and Sony Vegas.

If anyone knows of a workaround besides opening Quicktime pro and exporting, I’d love to know – because I like giving our editors the easy/quickest format for importing.

If not, maybe you can complain to Avid and help motivate them to fix this glaring problem.

Note: this was not a problem with XP-64, but Think this is a 64-bit app related problem.

    Thnx

What version of Avid Quicktime Codecs LE are you using? It sounds like you were using a version older than 2.3 Here’s a link to download the newest version https://avid.custkb.com/avid/app/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=372311

That said, I still occasionally have issues exporting Quicktimes with Alpha Channels from After Effects to Avid and find the most reliable method to be exporting to Apple Animation with Alpha (or as After Effects calls it, Lossless with Alpha).

I had the same problems with the Avid DNxHD Codec Configuration window on Sony Vegas Video. Radio buttons would not work, and the drop down list of frame rates and bit rates was not available on version 12 of vegas. I realized it was because I had the old AVID DNxHD codec installed, and that they would refuse to update when trying to install the new avid dnxhd codecs.

Note the title of my old version of the configuration window: “Avid DNxHD Codec Configuration window – v2.2.1” *should be v2.3.7

Solution: Overwrite the old codecs manually.

After “installing” the new Avid codecs, I think they ended up in this directory C:Program Files (x86)QuickTimeQTComponents
But they should go into this directory and replace the old 2010 codecs C:Program Files (x86)QuickTimeQTSystem

The new codecs should have a date of October ‎17, ‎2011

By the way, the files are called something like this: AvidAV1xCodec …. and there are 8 files. Once I moved them over manually, and restarted Sony Vegas, it all worked!

Hi, recently I started using the DNxHD codec (recent version) with vegas and had the same sort of problem (except it was that the configuration window was too small to correctly display the render settings in the drop down menu e.g. resolution, bitrate) and it doesn’t allow resizing. My solution was to use a program called ‘Resize Enable’ which when activated allows you to resize any window regardless of option. Once you resize the window all functions should automatically space themselves out like a normal resize. I downloaded the program here…

    Hope this helps,
