Hi all – I’d really appreciate your help on this one.

I am post supervising a series that is into production 1 week. Series is being shot with Panasonic Vari-Cam which uses P2 cards. We shoot with 5 cards in the camera and are encoding to AVC-Intra. Here’s the issue…

It seems that any clip that gets spanned between two cards is not able to import in AVID MC 5.5 via AMA. This is a big problem. There is also the odd clip that for whatever reason won’t link via AMA. We’ve upgraded to the latest version of MC and still no love.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi

I’ve run into a what sounds like a similar problem. Our workflow/workaround (we’re on MC 4) is to copy all of the cards to an external drive, putting each card’s contents into a folder that essentially is out tape. This is done in the field. Then I mount everything into one bin via ama, which seems to fill in the spanned clips. Every now and then we’ve come across some spanned clips that still didn’t load fully, but it’s worked 99% of the time so far. Then, if you want to sort the footage by the folder, you can sift through the Drive column.

Of course you can also tell the DP to not shoot with spanned clips as well 😉

    Hope this helps.
