    AVID Adrenaline HD question

    In setting up a “simple” Avid Adrenaline HD system to capture and layback to tape from either Sony HDCam or from Panasonic “Varicam” decks (via HD-SDI in both cases), is it absolutely necessary to have a tri-level sync generator? What am I giving up if I don’t have one? Etc.

    It all depends on the frame rate/format you are handling. Rule of thumb is if there is a frame rate conversion going on (say 24p to 60i) you will need it. However if you are working strcitly with interlaced format that is 59.94/29.97 a regular blackburst will work.
