Avid Adrenaline hardware
Posted by Al J. marschke on June 19, 2007 at 11:03 amFound this on the Avid Web site. I thought the Adrenaline was just a BOB. What processing power?
“And when you’re ready, it’s a snap to add the facility-grade processing power of Avid Adrenaline hardware and the HD-SDI capability of the Avid DNxcel board.”
Beam me up. Kirk out.

It’s a clever marketing falsehood. The only “accelerating” that the Adrenaline does is handle the transcoding of codecs freeing up the CPU from that duty. Similar to what the AJA I/O is oging to do with ProRes.

June 19, 2007 at 8:36 pmI love how we have accepted this “creative marketing” thing.
Where I come from, we just called it lieing. Punishable by law for businesses that do it to the public called false advertising.
Now, false advertising is creative marketing?
this does explain Avid’s markting.
All I know is I have a box worth 8k tops that I paid 45k for cuz I was told it’d do what it sez. Is till say Avid execs have a boatload of stock in apple and this is just part of the plan. I see nobody getting canned so somebody is making some serious cash.
…not avid cutomers.
I dunno if a tie in tewks hs somthing over sombody’s head or what but they make less sence to me than General Motors. I can’t believe somone is really this bad at their gig. The tanking of Avid has to be intentionl.

Much harder to win back a client then keep them in the first place.
Avid salesguy: “hey, sorry about Adrenaline, but we have a new solution, it’s still 8 times as much as your FCP, but hey, it’s Avid!” (Insert salesman smile here) “So, what do you say, ready to dump your FCP that you’ve gotten used to and come back to us?”

June 20, 2007 at 2:57 amyou really touched on it there.
The word Avid use to be worth something. I remeber in the early to mid 90s, the phone would ring and the producer on the other side would just ask, “do you have an Avid?”
“no, but we have a… hello? hello?”
It didn’t matter if they knew what it was or what it could do. Tey wanted the A word in their workflow. Now, I realize there is money in selling software off of shelves and I know they lost alot of love in the big anti-mac movement in the late 90s but this whole stick em while we can ‘tude that Avid has adopted will eventually result in the end of them. As an old Avid fan, I truely hate this. They ue to stand proud as an untouchable industry leader and now, in all honesty, those with Vagas have a leg up on those who owe 45k on their adrenalines (that are advertised at 25k.) It’s sad when ya look back an it’s embarrassing and frustrating right now. I crashed 4 times today with a client in the room. This may not sond like a big deal, and obviosly doesn’t to Avid but I use to crash 4 times in 2 months.
… and with the same client in the room. They do know the difference here. and tey want consessions. Consessions that greatly effect my bottom line. This is not unlike watching your hero all player get on crack, cop a tude and throw it all away.

June 20, 2007 at 8:08 pmbut, as a standalone device, to input aes, embedded, analogue balanced and unbalanced, adat, simultaeneous multiple sdi/yuv/composite outputs and broadcast and non broadcast video inputs, the back of an adrenaline is better populated than a dvwa500 with all the cards. I have some big issues with Avid but you can hook it up to just about anything with a plug on without needing a couple of racks full of avitel/bal etc glue.
