AVI problem in Sony Vegas Pro 10
I bought Sony Vegas some time ago and it worked fine on Windows XP. But when I changed to Windows 7 it wasn’t able to import AVI files anymore. Whenever I go to the Explorer to select the videos, they don’t even show up. If I try dragging them there is an error saying Sony Vegas couldn’t open the files.
I’ve tried downloading some codecs and everything but nothing works. The videos I’m wanting to import are simple .avi files, so I don’t know what to do about it anymore.
Can anyone help me?

Reinstall Vegas. Installing Windows 7 *may* have replaced the codec that the files were made with.

Been there, done that. I’ve also tried installing another Sony Vegas trial just to see if the problem persisted and the same thing happens. What’s real strange is that these files work on both Windows Movie Maker and Ulead Video Studio..

It still sounds like a codec problem. What is the source of the AVI fles? Have you run Gspot to determine what codec the avi file needs?

I just downloaded GSpot, selected the different videos and the codec is XViD, which I already have installed, according to the program.

Search the forums for Xvid – you’ll find that Xvid doesn’t play well with Vegas. Those who *do* get Xvid files to work with Vegas are few, and lucky.
I’ve never dealt with an Xvid file, so I don’t know of any workarounds.
