.AVI in Avid
Hi to all. I need to capture video trough Avid with Mojo and then take the captured files to another NLE system. Most PC NLE’s (Like Vegas or Premiere) work with .AVI files as the best quality video but AVID doesn’t. I need to capture with Avid and then take the files to another system. What can I do?

-Or is it posible to confugure Avid Mojo to work with Vegas or Premiere?
The main point is that I need to capture with Mojo but I need to manipulate the files in Vegas or Premiere as .AVI files. Any codec to do this or to make the other NLE’s can read the OMFI files Avid creates?Thanks a lot for any help, I really need it.

The 2GB limit is an OS limitation.

Avid is pretty proud of the Mojo. I don’t know of a way to get it to work with any other edit software. What is it about the Mojo you have to use? What’s your source material? If you are coming in firewire, why not skip the Avid altogether and use Vegas/Premeire to capture?

Is it the software you need to use, or do you need the final output as an .avi? Wouldn’t QT work for your purposes? I’m pretty sure both packages will handle a QT file. Maybe I need a better understanding of your need to use .avi…

Ok. The source material is Betacam. The Avid room with a Betacam player is in a TV chanel. I’m working in a project with them so I’ve got to capture there (best quality analog capture via Mojo), save the files in a portable hard disk and take it to my place and do some editing in Vegas (My PC has not analog inputs and I don’t have a Betacam player in my room)
I need to sablish a workflow (cheap & soon).

You are going to spend a lot of time exporting – no two ways about.
Does Vegas handle Quicktime? Avid is a native QT application – meaning it works best in QT. My suggestion is to work in QT, as long as Vegas will handle it. (I’m pretty sure it does – I use QT audio files in Vegas all the time).
Avid is not great at exporting anything other than Quicktime. If you export ‘same as source’, its not too painful. If you export .avi, it’ll take longer to get your footage out.
I’d suggest creating one short QT file to test in your system.
I found this on the CODEC page at Avid.com:
“These codecs are not for use with DV media on Avid Xpress DV. However, many Avid Xpress DV customers have been interested in the whereabouts of these codecs. The standalone Avid DV codec is included in the Goodies folder on Avid Xpress DV 3.5 CD.”
Hopefully, whoever owns the XPress system has the install disk readilly available. Install the CODECS in the C:\WinNT\System32\ or C:\Windows\System32\ directory.
Get your footage. Create a masterpiece. Get paid. Have a soda.
