AVI from Canon A620 & Vegas
Hello again,
I’ve recently bought a Canon A620 still digital cam, which can take full size, 30fps video*. These come out as .avi files. They play fine in the PC using Windows Media Player.
But in Vegas, when I place the .avi files on the timeline, I only get the audio portion.
What should I do, please? (I’m trying to put together a good friend’s wedding video and need quick help.) Thank you!

*By the way, the video is quite good, to my surprise! However, you cannot zoom while shooting with this camera. -

How do I open AVI files create by still cameras? (courtesy of Edward Troxel).
Buy either MJPEG codec recommended and you’ll be fine. -
Thank you for your quick reply. I downloaded the first one recommended, and the “free” one, and can unzip it OK, but I don’t understand how it is installed or used. Does it have to reside somewhere in a Vegas folder??

John, as I recall (I installed the Morgan codec as well but it’s been a while), I simply installed it and it worked. A reboot may have been necessary but I’m not 100% certain about that.
An icon installs itself in the taskbar and has a number of settings but I just accepted the default without any issues. -

I must be really dumb. I installed the Morgan Multimedia Codec, and its icon did show up at the taskbar. Clicking it gives the various settings. But then….I can’t figure out how to use it to “open” an .avi file, and do something with it!
No “open file” in the settings.
Right-clicking the .avi file does not provide a “convert with MMCodec….” or something similar.
So I’m a bit confused as to “how to do the next step” after installing the Codec.
