AVI audio not showing up in the timeline
Some background: I have encountered this same problem in Premiere Pro 1.5 and 2.0. I used to be able to do it, but now I can. I just reformatted my computer and reinstalled Premiere, and it no longer works. I am running XP.
What I need to be able to do is edit FLV files. I got them from NFL.com (and a few from Youtube). I converted them to DivX AVIs using TotalVideoConveter, since I know that Premiere can’t handle FLV.
When I used to do this, it would work fine. I could import the new AVIs into Premiere and edit them like any other AVI.
My problem is this: I can still import the AVIs into Premiere. I can see them in the preview window (I’m not sure what it’s officially called, but it’s the left of the two video screens in Premiere). Their sound works in the preview window. However, when I drag these videos down to the timeline, their sound disappears. In Premiere Pro 1.5, they have an audio track but it doesn’t show a waveform. In Premiere Pro 2.0, there just isn’t an audio track.
I don’t think it’s a sound card issue. I know that my converted AVIs work because I can play them in Media Player, VLC, etc. I can put a normal mp3 on the Premiere timeline and it will work fine. I also don’t think it’s a matter of having my audio settings set to play back over my DV hardware. I know about this issue and ensured that it’s not the problem.
I also tried installing a randowm DivX codec pack that I found, but it changed nothing.
What could be causing this problem and how can I fix it?
Any help would be GREATLY appeciated.

When video or audio does not show up in Premiere it is usually a codec problem. Run the file through GSpot and see if codec is installed.
Divx is a bad choice. Premiere does not handle divx well at all. Convert audio to wave and problem will be solved.
